Importance of Research

As the 5th most common cancer worldwide, according to the World Health Organization, there are just over 1 million new stomach cancer cases every year. However, there are an estimated 783,000 deaths per year from the disease. 78% of all cases. Why is the National Cancer Institute’s cancer research budget only directing 0.24% of its budget to the disease in its most recent reporting year? Research funding for this disease is left nearly entirely up to organizations and public charities like Project Periwinkle. We are striving to fill the research gap!

We are a research focused nonprofit organization because we see a huge need to fill the gap between what is currently directed in research dollars and where stomach cancer ranks globally. We are proud to be an organization that sees tremendous promise in research programs that are making possible advancements that are shaping the future, and through starting programs and giving them the support to move forward, we are empowering innovation that is driving progress forward.

Since 2015, we have contributed to and started programs that share our values and commitment. To date, 4 cancer centers and 7 programs have been financially advanced because of what we believed in, but more importantly, this progress and what we have been able to accomplish as a organization is only possible because of our donors and supporters who first believe in us. To all who continue to make possible every moment, THANK YOU!
